Homework 5, Chapter 6
I want to discuss principle 6.2, The Tofu Burger Principle. I think one of the biggest challenges that app developers face is designing a game that is both easy to get a hold of and comprehensive. Particularly with mobile apps, I and most others become skeptical when the onboarding process and initial screens look crowded or overly complicated. If the app overwhelms you, it becomes much less fun, useful, etc.
Week 5: Chapter 5
I used the sanity test mentioned above on my project and want to share this introspective process.
First I attempted to reflect on the first question: Does the end product justify the technology?
Week 3 Reading Response: Chapter 2
For this reading response, I want to discuss "Design Inside-Out" and "Function Follows Form" (Principles 2.2 and 2.3). After reading this chapter, I got the app Ocarina. I was very curious to see how well it actually worked as I have tried many musical instrument apps on my phone and none of them have been very good. I have tried guitar and piano apps and they seemed clunky and hard to work with. When downloading Ocarina, I was dubious.
Homework 2
The idea of design loops was pretty mind boggling on page 143. The end goal of the book’s design is to create a feeling and emotion that will convey the message in a particular manner. The feeling of this book, filled with pictures of Ge in a comic book style is meant to evoke a sense of lightheartedness and a focus on the story/train of thought. I found that this is very best way to discuss a topic like design. The way I see design, it does not fit in to the category of art or engineering, but somewhere in between.
Homework 1
Reading Response: Form and Function
I find the inevitable pull and tug between Function and Form to be a vital component in managing and developing any type of product. As someone who has a vested interest in startups, I have experience in designing, whether that be my own apps on Sketch or constructing a toothbrush that can supply the toothpaste using the rudimentary tools found in my garage (https://www.youtube.com/watch?).
